Teemu Mastovaara holds a master’s degree in Contemporary Performance and Composition from the class of 2018.The program consisted of studies in music universities/colleges ofTallinn, Stockholm, Lyon and Hamburg, with focus on contemporary music in different forms: performance, composition, improvisation, electronic and electroacoustic music, interdisciplinary collaboration etc. His final project piece Mit Inniger Empfindung for violin, cello, piano, percussions, electric bass, gayageum, painter and electronics was chosen for the Ung Nordisk MusikFestival 2019.
Before CoPeCo, Teemu graduated as a cello teacher from Turku Music Academy with Timo Hanhinen and Erkki Lahesmaa as his teachers in 2014. In 2015 he received a diploma from the school for actively finding new ways to work within the department of music by taking part in various interdisciplinary and international projects. Other important cello teachers include Lauri Angervo, Ola Karlsson, Arto Noras, Timo Oikkonenand Roi Ruottinen. In 2015–2016, he made supplementary studies in musicology at Turku University, his bachelor’s thesis exploring nature soundscape on a metal album.
Mastovaara’s recent collaborators include Turku City Theatre, Teatteri Tuntematon, Helsinki Sinfonietta, Swallow the Sun and KorvatAuki Ensemble.He has performed as soloist of Turku Philharmonic Orchestra and Collegium Musicum Turku.He actively plays music from various genres with focus on contemporary music.
